Branny Ramble  Beautiful Branny Ramble


The Branny Ramble route takes you on an exploration of the rolling agricultural landscape around the Ancestral Homestead of President Ulysses S Grant, the 18th President of the United States of America with breathtaking views over nine counties; Tyrone, Derry, Donegal, Antrim, Leitrim, Down and Cavan.


If you enjoy a bit of company on your hikes, you can join the Branny Ramble walk on Sunday 8th June. The walk organised by Dungannon and South Tyrone Borough Council, sets off from U.S Homestead at 2.30pm and is a fundraiser event for Cancer Research. It includes a guided tour and cyclists are welcome. On return to Grant’s there will be a barbecue and entertainment. What to bring

As a general rule, it is best to be over prepared than under prepared. Waterproof and windproof clothing are essential and strong walking boots are also advisable. Walkers should carry enough food and water for the walk and fro emergencies as well as taking a fist aid kit. As a further safety precaution, you are advised to inform someone of your intended route before you leave.


The backdrop

The walk starts at U.S President Grants Homestead, Dergenagh Road, Ballygawley, off the A4, 13 miles west of Dungannon.

The 18th President of the USA Ulysses Simpson Grant the Commander of the victorious Union troops in the American Civil War, U.S. Grant served two terms as U.S. President and visited the homeland. His roots can be traced back to Dergenagh, where the Simpson’s smallholding was typical of local 19th Century farming. The cottage and farmyard have been developed as an exhibition and activity centre by Dungannon and South Tyrone Borough Council.

Play area for children. Facilities are accessible to a wheelchair user with assistance. Picnic and BBQ area, children’s play area, toilets, and wildlife garden. Coach and car parking available.

2.30pm Begin Branny Ramble


4.00pm Return to U.S Grants Homestead
