Launch of Local Food Directory

FOOD GEMS REVEALED IN NEW DIRECTORY

A new local food directory, which provides information on food producers in counties Tyrone, Fermanagh and Londonderry/Derry, was launched on Monday 10th November at the Lough Erne Golf Resort Hotel, Enniskillen.

Called the Local Food Directory, it was produced by Flavour of Tyrone on behalf of the Western Regional Tourism Partnership and part-funded by the International Fund for Ireland administered by the Northern Ireland Tourist Board.  Also sponsored by Newry based Independent Catering Services it features commentary and recipes from critically acclaimed Northern Ireland Chef Noel McMeel.

Whether its jams, chutneys, ice cream, dairy, meat or organic produce the local food directory will navigate you to all the key producers in the region who will tantalise and satisfy your palate.

The directory will be a perfect guide for anyone interested in locally produced food such as restaurateurs, chefs, hoteliers and the general public.

Buying and sourcing local food is not only an important part of our economy but can add value to the tourism experience.  With visitors increasingly interested in the definitive taste of a country the Local Food Directory will guide them in the right direction.

Nigel Hill, Chairman of the Western Regional Tourism Partnership commented:

“ On behalf of the Western Regional Tourism Partnership I would like to extend our thanks to all of those producers, funders and sponsors involved in the local food directory.  Without them we would not have this excellent food guide to our region.  Its is jammed packed with food gems and recipes ideas and will certainly help to put the region on the map for anyone who loves food!.”

Delighted to be involved in the local food directory Noel McMeel added:

“I am passionate about local produce, and it is wonderful to be involved in this exciting producers directory which I hope will encourage more people to buy food from their doorstep, rather than abroad - support what's local, support what's good, you will love the taste!"

Mark Windebank, from sponsors Independent Catering Services, said:

“ We are delighted and proud to be sponsors of the local food directory.  It is important that we showcase local producers and provide them with a platform to promote themselves and the directory does just that.  I am sure the directory will boost business and really put the region on the food map.”

The local food directory is available from Tourist Information Centers in the western region: Killymaddy, Magherafelt, Omagh, Strabane, Cookstown, Enniskillen, Derry Visitor and Convention Bureau and participating council offices.  It is also available to download from their websites.
